Supply Chain and Logistics

Challenge

This client was looking for a complete redesign and redevelopment of their public facing website, whilst simultaneously needing a comprehensive customer portal.

Outcome

The solution encompassed a headless CMS that delivers content publicly and privately behind an authentication wall and services the needs of every member on the network.

This client was looking for a complete redesign and redevelopment of its public facing website, whilst simultaneously needing a comprehensive customer portal so their members could observe changing on the rail network and adjust capacity.

This new platform would also include an article space where content could be published to the public area and private customer news could be published exclusively. It would have an address book for other contacts positioned within the network (curated through an azure directory) and a reporting area where customers could see private and automatically created reports related to their performance.

Running two projects in unison

The main business challenges included:

  • Lack of network control

Capacity transfer was done on an ad-hoc basis and had no overarching governance

  • No central repository

Private documents were created daily but sent via various communication channels

  • Connecting members

Knowing the correct person to contact on the coal chain is difficult for different scenarios
  • Different CMS’s

The client’s content was managed in different CMS implementations
  • Custom reports

Difficult to create and share with members despite following a very rigid set of rules

A streamlined content experience

Our team, in collaboration with the client, delivered a fully integrated, responsive system servicing every member’s needs on the network.

  • Scalable solution for all future needs

Contentful is now used for all of the client’s future projects that require a CMS

  • Content published to multiple areas

Centralised content in one CMS solution that stops the need to create it multiple times
  • Automatic reporting

Syndicated information from internal systems (Insights) delivering reports and statistics on current progress
  • Public vs Private

Sharing content to two different spaces within the platform, public facing and member only
  • Member control

Members can now observe, regulate and manage coal capacity across the network
  • Address book

A database of relevant contacts created via the existing Azure active directory implementation
