Streamlining MAN Truck & Bus’ Logistics With Tailored Application Support
Challenge
MAN Truck & Bus SE’s warehouse management system, SILOC by Siemens, is tailored to meet the unique MAN specifications for logistics sites and production plants. Despite being a business-critical system, the system is 20 years old and built on top of code that isn’t documented or written in English.
Outcome
With a structured, systematic approach, we provided round-the-clock support and kept MAN’s warehouses running smoothly.
At MAN Truck & Bus SE, one of the largest truck and bus manufacturers in the world, a seamless and efficient serial production and after-sales process is crucial to maintaining their standing in the competitive automotive sector. Unfortunately, MAN’s warehouse software, SILOC by Siemens, was two decades old, undocumented and in multiple languages, meaning even 5 minutes of downtime could halt production.
Applying our industry-specific, engineering and testing knowledge, we partnered with the company to transform SILOC into a reliable, efficient and high-performance solution that keeps their site-specific logistics moving forward.
Modernising legacy management software
Where other service providers do not dare to use such spaghetti code, Endava relies on their structured approach to familiarize itself with the system and adapt the code up to the defined change of control.
We integrated Endava's service management practice, grounded in the ITIL framework, into MAN's operational workflows, processes and protocols. Each MAN location –Dachau, Salzgitter, Parts Distribution Center Turkey, Nuremberg, Munich, and Krakow – boasts a bespoke version of SILOC supported by about 200,000 lines of code per site.
The updated system is now empowered with the following capabilities:
- Incident reporting and disturbance management
- Second- and third-level error rectification support
- Rigorous documentation according to defined standards
- Project consultancy and support services
- On-call readiness for critical support
- One-off transition service
- Continuous feature on-demand development
Furthermore, MAN’s ticketing system assesses incidents reported by warehouse site staff and meticulously sorts and escalates them, as needed. This ensures swift resolution by our dedicated team of C++ developers, as well as our project, QA and delivery managers.
With Endava's dedicated application support for SILOC, we've achieved unprecedented efficiency and reliability in our warehouse management systems, crucial for maintaining our logistical capabilities."

Providing reliable end-of-lifetime warehouse management support
Our comprehensive service has been instrumental in monitoring, alerting and providing round-the-clock support in line with the agreed service levels while ensuring that application-level disturbances are resolved within the service window. We supplement our service by conducting quarterly service review meetings with MAN to foster a collaborative environment to continuously refine the services rendered.
Finally, our tailored application support enhanced MAN's logistical capabilities, allowing us to integrate across Europe and Turkey, delivering unmatched reliability, incident management and feature development. And we even earned Siemens' recommendation as the ideal partner for SILOC’s end-of-life support.
