As businesses everywhere put sustainability front and centre, engineering teams need to take a more accountable approach to software development – and it’s on us to drive innovation and sustainability. With IT-related emissions now rivaling the airline industry, businesses can no longer afford to overlook their approach to eco-friendly development. That’s why we’ve created our Green Developer Dashboard, which can help companies reduce their carbon imprint and foster efficiencies in an increasingly climate-conscious market.

Why green software matters

Software applications don’t exist in a vacuum – they run on cloud infrastructure, consume energy and contribute to CO₂ emissions. Factors such as code efficiency, cloud regions and runtime scheduling can all influence an application’s sustainability. Until now, developers lacked a standardised way to measure and reduce their software’s environmental impact. The Green Developer Dashboard helps change this.

We can now provide green software metrics for the software applications we build for clients, enabling near real-time insights into energy consumption, carbon emissions and optimisation opportunities.

The Green Developer Dashboard delivers environmental and business value by enabling engineering teams to track, analyse and minimise the carbon footprint of their applications – seamlessly integrating sustainability into the software development lifecycle (SLDC). Beyond emissions reduction, optimising software efficiency can lower cloud costs, improve performance and foster smarter resource allocation.

What’s in it for you?

Our dashboard helps provide developers with a holistic view of application's sustainability metrics; we built it to be modular, scalable and adaptable. Regardless of technology stack or cloud provider, the Green Developer Dashboard offers actionable insights at every stage of the SDLC.

  • Static code analysis: Evaluate your codebase for efficiency, detect carbon-intensive operations and receive recommendations for greener alternatives.
  • Energy consumption monitoring: Measure the energy usage of application containers and locate inefficiencies.
  • Software Carbon Intensity (SCI) measurement: Calculate the CO₂ emissions of your software in real-time, using the international standard from the Green Software Foundation.
  • Cloud ranking and optimisation: Identify the cleanest cloud regions for your workloads, optimize cloud usage and follow best practices to cut carbon emissions.

Built with sustainability tech

We leveraged tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, CAST Highlight, Electricity Maps, Climatiq and the Green Software Foundation’s Impact Framework to create a data-driven, actionable sustainability dashboard and would like to thank CAST, Electricity Maps and Climatiq for their support.

With these integrated services, we can now provide real-time grid carbon intensity insights, compute emissions tracking and dynamic sustainability scoring for any applications we build for you.

Real-world impact with proven CO₂ reduction

We piloted the Green Developer Dashboard on our internal desk-booking system to validate our approach. The results? Have a look.

  • Identified potential for significant reduction in CO₂ emissions simply by optimizing the cloud region
  • Opportunity to reduce energy consumption with code-level optimisation
  • Improved decision-making for teams building greener software

Let's build greener software together

The Green Developer Dashboard is a sustainability tool and a business enabler. Whether you’re building new applications or optimising existing ones, our dashboard provides

visibility, insights and recommendations to help minimise your software’s carbon footprint without compromising performance or scalability.

The dashboard can be fully integrated with minimal overhead, helping organisations progress toward their Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and NetZero goals. The emissions savings may seem incremental initially, but they compound and will turn developmental sustainability into a measurable ROI.
